SSS Contribution, Maternity Benefits, Loan, Login – Everything you Need to Know

Saving and preparing for retirement should be among the top priorities, especially when you reach mid-age. Social Security System, or SSS is one of the ways you can secure your future. For freelancers, it is wise to voluntarily pay for your SSS contributions as soon as you shift to freelancing. Not only is it a way to secure your retirement, you can also avail of many benefits such as sickness, maternity, disability, death and funeral, and salary loan.

SSS Membership Contribution

The good thing with paying for your SSS membership contribution today is you can already pay conveniently through affiliated payment centers. Your SSS monthly contribution will depend on your salary bracket. It would be great to pay the same amount as your last contribution as this will impact the amount of benefits you can avail. But if not, you can pay the minimum amount.

HOW TO COMPUTE:

The SSS Maternity Benefit is based on your Monthly Salary Credit (MSC) of your SSS contribution. On April 1, 2019, the maximum MSC was raised to P20,000. The higher your MSC, the higher your SSS Maternity Benefit will be.

  1. Exclude the semester of contingency (delivery or miscarriage).
  2. Count 12 months backwards starting from the month immediately before the semester of contingency.
  3. Identify and add the six highest Monthly Salary Credits (MSC) within the 12- month period  prior to the Semester of Contingency.

Example: If you are paying 1,500 for your SSS monthly contribution, your Monthly  Salary Credit (MSC) is 12,500 based on the SSS Contribution Table for 2019 above.

If you have less than 6 contributions within the 12 months prior to your semester of contingency, then add only the MSC of those contributions.

  1. Divide the total MSC by 180 days to get the Average Daily Salary credit.
  2. Multiply the Average Daily Salary credit depending on the following criteria to get your SSS Maternity Benefit:
    Normal Delivery – 105 days
    Caesarean Delivery – 105 days
    Miscarriage – 60 days
Solo Parent (either Normal or Caesarean) – 120 days

SSS Maternity Benefit Computation Example: Delivery Month – May 2020

  1. Semester of Contingency: January 2020 to June 2020
  2. From  January 2018 – December 2019, the SSS Member should have at least paid 3 months contribution to avail  the SSS Maternity Benefit.
  3.  If you have only 3 monthly contributions within the 12 month period, add their corresponding MSC. 12, 500 x 3 = 37, 500.00

SSS Voluntary Member Contribution and Loan Payments

For SSS voluntary member contribution payment, you would need to log on to their website, sss.gov.ph to get your PRN. The PRN is needed for you to pay your contribution. In order to browse the SSS website, use Internet Explorer (I know it is outdated but this seems to be the only browser that works fine with their website).

For loan payments, no need to get the PRN. You just pay directly through SSS and accredited payment centers.
